Thel 'Vadam sat in his office, looking over various plans and meetings he had to accomplish his goals of a United Sangheilios. While his efforts were proving fairly successful, the realization that there were other Colonies that would go against him forced him to attend to the other colonies. He had always known about the Sangheili Colonies, but with everything on Sangheilios being in a state of chaos he hadn't thought of them. Today was going to be one of his first meetings with someone from the Colony World. The Sivar Clan had suffered massive losses during the Human-Covenant Engagement. Their Clanship being destroyed early in the war, but a rather skilled Fleet Master from their Clan had managed to get themselves a small collection of ships. Today, he was going to try and recruit them.
He looked at his datapad, just as he heard a knock on the door. One of the Keep females entered and bowed. "Yes? Has he arrived?" Thel asked, standing up. When he noticed she looked a little conflicted, he grew concerned.
"Yes, Kiadon... They have arrived and are waiting. Shall I send them in?" The female asked, seeming careful of her words.
"Yes. Do so immediately" He commanded, shutting down his monitors. He walked around his desk to greet them when they entered. Despite his rank, he wanted to show the Fleet Master as much respect as possible. There was no use exerting his rank and expecting respect from those who hadn't even agreed to join the Swords. When the Fleet Master arrived, though, he was more than a little shocked.
He looked to be a child.
The Sangheili before him was no taller than an adolescent at the end of their training, and yet he wore a Covenant Fleet Master Combat Harness. Their armour was also quite decorative. Sheer purple cloth seemed added to give the Fleet Master a more feminine appearance. An odd choice for one of such high rank, until he realized who he was faced with.
"It is good to finally meet you in the flesh, Thel 'Vadam," the Sangheili said in an unmistakably female voice. "I am Fleet Mistress Edto Xar'Sivaree of the former Covenant, now a free agent in this civil war," she said, looking up at Thel.
Thel 'Vadam was admittedly a little surprised. "Edto 'Sivar? You were in the class I taught when I was a Ship Master were you not?" He asked, hating to look down on the female. "The one who had the disability?" He continued, starting to walk to his desk. "I remember that class well. I was the one who gave you your recommendation. I hate to admit it, but I did not think you had survived your service. I am glad you did. Please sit down" He said, sitting in his chair.
Edto 'Sivar nodded, taking a seat before responding to Thel's string of questions and comments. "Yes, I was in your class through war college, and I have always appreciated the recommendation you gave me. My career was difficult, but your recommendation prevented me from being removed from my command when I originally became a Ship Mistress," She said, ignoring the comment on her disability. It had become a common occurrence. "I believe you have a proposition for me, yes?" She asked, getting straight to the point.
Thel liked how blunt she was with her question. "Indeed, Fleet Mistress. As you may understand, Sangheilios, and the Sangheili race has been in a state of conflict since the war with the humans ended. The Servants of Abiding Truth, The Covenant Remnant, so much we have had to deal with and still there is more to come. I have looked to the Colonies for support. We are lacking trained crews and capable officers, and as much as I hate to admit it, I do not think we will be able to prevail should things continue as they have. That is where you come in" He explained, looking at Edto intently. She seemed quiet. She was always quiet when being told anything. His memory of her was returning rapidly enough.
"As I am to understand, you have amassed a small group of ships. Most notably, a mostly functioning assault carrier. I am aware it suffered extensive damage in an engagement of your own. Without the Engineers, you have been unable to fix it fully..." Thel said, taking a deep breath. "And unfortunately, I cannot offer you anything a value, nor repair a ship of that mass to get it combat ready. Worst of all, I need that ship... I need all of your ships, but I will not bring myself to force them from you" He continued, looking to Edto with an admittedly defeated look. He had been grasping at straws for some time, but he could not afford to offer the Fleet Mistress anything that would be of value to her in return for her five warships. While the Carrier was damaged, she had managed to keep a hold of four heavy destroyers from her initial fleet. Everything else had either abandoned her to fight for another group or had been destroyed in engagements of her own.
Edto, however, remained cool, which concerned Thel. In a way, she even looked bored to him. Finally, she stood, and Thel felt he may have lost this chance. She didn't immediately leave, though. Thel steeled himself as he stood up in turn. He may need her strength, but he wasn't going to let her know how desperately. Part of his ploy was to show her he knew more than she may think he did.
"I do not know why you wasted your breath trying to sell me Arbiter. I had fully intended on joining the Swords of Sangheilios when I took this offer to meet you. I owe a lot to you Thel 'Vadam. Much of which I have not been able to repay. I also agree with your vision to have peace with the Humans. You will see my ships fly by your command, and we will work out the command of the Carrier. I rather enjoy my time commanding it" She chuckled, giving a bow and leaving.
Thel was deeply relieved; Surprised even. He didn't think he would be able to double the ships under his command in such a short period of time. The Assault Carrier was also a major asset. Even if it was not functioning, it would, at least, give the impression of might and possibly hold off attackers. He had not heard of many being out under free agents and had jumped at the chance to acquire this one. He would have to talk to Edto about toying with him, though, next time he saw her.
So I took a slightly different approach during this Audition. No, this is not canon unless admin decides it is. I had to come up with something to do, and I figured why not have Thel in a troubling position. He, like any skilled commander, knows that there will be more battle to face. He may not know it yet, but they are there. He needs ships and strength but has very little available to provide in turn to convince these "free agents" to join. I used Edto because she was a Sangheili Character that I was familiar with. Hope you think it's worth Thel 'Vadam
