Faction & Division: Swords of Sangheilios
Rank:Ship Mistress
Name: Edto ‘Sivar
Race: Sangheili
Age: 55
Height: 5’4”
Weight:300 lbs
Appearance: Edto Sivar is small, even in respect to her already smaller Sangheili Clan. Born as a Proportional Dwarf, Edto Sivar takes the appearance of an Adolescent despite having grown fully. She, like the rest of her clan, have pale, rough, scale-like skin and unusually bright coloured eyes. Her eye colour is a light, pale blue. She is quite lean, with first impressions making her seem weak.
Edto’s body also has it’s fair share of oddly deliberate mutilations. The most noticeable of them is her Mandible. Her bottom left Mandible is gone aside from a small stub. Less noticeable are the Ornate Forerunner runes carved into her hide.
Strengths: Edto Sivar has learned to use her size to her advantage. Her lower center of gravity, coupled with her lack of bulk makes her deceptively quick. As an addition, given the obvious disadvantages of her smaller stature, she has learned to focus on the larger picture. This makes her effective in large scale group combat. Finally, she has extraordinary dark vision. Like the rest of her Clan, she is very adept at navigating dark, subterranean locations.
Weaknesses: Despite her efforts to prove the contrary, Edto’s stature is a weakness. When it comes to brute strength, she fails to deliver in the same sense as others of her race. Coupled with her “Bigger Picture” way of looking at fights, Edto often has difficulties focusing on a single target. Constantly looking at other variables, if she cannot end a fight quickly, she will often lose it all together. Lastly, bright lights are immensely disorienting to her. Her skin is sensitive to the sun, and even moderately bright lights can temporarily blind her.
Biography:
((2503))
Edto was born on a Sangheili Colony planet. From a young age, like most Sangheili Edto was trained to be a warrior. She quickly found this to be her passion, and carried on well after a female from another keep would have gone to expected keep duties.
((2521))
While she could fight reasonably well, when faced in a one on one hand to hand fight she was vastly underpowered and very often lost said fights. Put in a larger situation, however, she would excel faster than the others. Over time, those of the keep recognized her extraordinary eye for strategy. They started placing her in charge of teams during keep games, very seldom watching her lose. The older she got, the less and less she lost.
Edto refused to allow her gender or disability define who she was, she accepted an offer to take the Rite of Passage. Given to all who are trained as a warrior, females rarely accepted as their society viewed females who have gone through the rites as ugly and unfit to be a wife.
The first rite Edto participated in was simple. Known as the Rite of Strength, Edto would be locked in a large arena like cage, with a Native Subterranean creature the Keep had named the Sanghunter. The name was given to them when the Sangheili first started to colonize the planets. They would crawl out of crevices and kill or maim the Sangheili who took the large cavern systems. Their ferocity and effectiveness lead the Sangheili of the Sivar Keep especially to respect them.
The fight was fairly long, but using her size, speed, and cunning to avoid the beast, she managed to last long enough to wear the beast out and end its life. Overseen by the keep elders They made their decisions for the next Rite.
The Second Rite Edto had to undergo, was known as the Rite of Devotion. After watching Edto’s battle with the Sanghunter, they picked a set of Forerunner symbols and devised a pattern for them. A pattern of symbols that were to be carved across every inch of skin on her body. This rite was the longest of the three. The symbols would be cut into the hide of the warrior, and then packed with ash to make the scars heal in rather bold ways. This rite was often the Rite where many females backed out, losing them the right to be declared true warriors of the Sivar Clan.
Finally, the Rite of Sacrifice. In the past, the Rite of Sacrifice had to be performed exactly as it was written. A week before the Rite, those Warriors who made it to this point were informed that they had to decide which mandible had to be sacrificed. Upon the date of the Rite, they would be brought before the keep, and they would tell the Elder which mandible they chose. That mandible would them be torn from the Sangheili’s head, by hand. Should the Sangheili scream or try to leave the podium before they were permitted to, they would be executed immediately.
Over several centuries, however, the Rite had claimed more and more Sangheili until it was decided that they would make the removal of the mandible optional. Over time, it became a threat that children received when they were being bad. Edto did not see it that way, though. She saw it as her only opportunity. The mere act of following through was enough to be considered one of the strongest warriors of the Keep. It certainly marked you as a youth with enough promise to go around.
On the day for her and those who partook in the rites with her’s day to accomplish the Rite of Sacrifice, she asked if she could be last. The Elders agreed, sharing a quick chuckle with each other. They thought she was nervous, and rightly so. One by one the Youths approached the podium, cutting their hands and spilling their blood for the Covenant and their Keep. They recited the oath that indicated that their life and honour was not theirs, but the Covenants and the Keeps.
When it was finally Edto’s turn, she slowly approached the podium. She knew that the Elder was trained. She had looked in secret to find out everything of the Rites before she took them. Once she made it to the Elder, she kneeled and simply told him to take her bottom left mandible. Her voice carried well enough to bring the crowd even further into silence. Her Elder held a look of understanding. He waved over a Sangheili Warrior who prepared his energy sword.
The pain Edto experienced was worse than anything she could possibly imagine. She was temporarily blinded and let out a spastic growl. She writhed on the spot for a few moments before she managed to gather herself up enough to recite her oath. Missing the mandible, and fighting the pain she had to fight to say it all correctly, but finally managed it. She stood tall, her neck and chest covered in blood as she walked to where the rest of the youths stood. She refused all medical attention until the ceremony was over.
Sometime later, hundreds of Sivar keep Warriors were sent to the Covenant War College. Only a thousand warriors from their Colony were capable of going as they had to accommodate several larger outer colonies with very few and small ships. A majority being from the Sivar Keep was a testament to their warriors strength and effectiveness.
The first year of War College, Edto had troubles outshining the other Warriors she was placed with. In the beginning, being a female with a disability caused her problems socially. Soon her classmates learned that her Disabilities could be turned into an advantage if underestimated. Over time, the teachers noticed students giving Edto a bit more space during training simply because she was unpredictable with how she would use her Disability.
Eventually though the other students started to learn how to fight against her and she was brought back down to a similar level as them. She adapted to them just as much as they to her, but she had the distinct advantage of being the only proportionate dwarf in the class. She kept the other students on their toes, and the instructors kept her on hers.
Year two was much different. She was ranked high, and an acolyte 3 ranks lower was placed with them. Displeased with this, everyone in the file except Edto left the Acolyte to his own devices. Edto knew that this Acolyte could be a handicap and that in War the only way to deal with a Handicap is to turn it into an advantage. When they weren’t taking part in War Sermons, she focused as much time as she could spare on teaching the lower Acolyte. His skill grew extraordinarily, and they became close friends.
Once they entered the second part of Year two with the college, Edto found her time to shine. She wanted to be powerful. She wanted her actions to make a striking difference each and every time she took one. She wanted fights ran on such a level that she would never be bored in a fight. She had her fill of one on one fighting, she wanted to fight in Fleet Tier operations.
It seemed the Acolyte that she had helped catch up to everyone else had the same feelings, as they both signed up for the Covenant Navy. Both of them had the desire to be Ship Masters, and that is where the both of them went. Over time, the two became near inseparable in their training and in their leisure time.
((2528))
Their time together was not to last, though. Edto knew that her path was that of a warrior and not of a wife. Regardless of how close they may have gotten, Edto put it behind her and carried on. Edto met her Year Three instructor shortly after. He was smart, and a skilled Ship Master who was also a Kaidon of his keep. He had an interesting way of looking at combat, different from the other Shipmaster that were acting as Instructors. Many of their classes were over holographic communications, as he was fighting a war against a newfound threat.
By the end of the year, Edto had passed War College with flying colours. Keeping with tradition, she asked the Instructor for a letter of blessing which carried quite the weight with it. It did not take her long before she was the Mistress of the Bridge ((Officer of the Deck)) to a Light Destroyer Craft. She effectively did her job, as well as demonstrated a knowledge and understanding for the other ship positions expected of her future role on the ship.
((2548))
After several battles, the need for trained, qualified ship masters grew more and more. Edto was promoted to Ship Mistress of a Heavy Destroyer. She has since continued her career as one, often being given command of Warbands for specific jobs, but never being officially given full command of one.
((Post Schism))
As the War progressed, Edto saw fewer and fewer reasons to continue believing in the Covenant. She had always held her doubts about the teaching of the San'Shyuum, but upon learning of Thel Vadam be dishonoured and made the Arbiter because of the humans made her blood boil with rage. To further learn that the Prophets had been using them to bring upon a Galactix mass Genocide of ever sentient creature, the Ship Mistress needed hardly any convincing to side her sword with the Arbiter.
